Over 1.5 BILLION albums sold world wide. Songs that transcend generations, and will continue to do so. Arguably the most successful & influential band in musical history. And they were 4 rough nuts from working class Liverpool in the UK. So what made them so incredibly FAB?
They were different. They were cheeky. They were clever. The songs were catchy. John & Paul were song writing geniuses. But these things alone do not explain the phenomenon that was Beatlemania.
Having been a Beatles fanatic since I was in Year 9 at school, I have often pondered how ridiculously successful the Beatles were. And I think the answer to their success is somewhat captured in the acronym that became their second name in the 60’s – the F.A.B FOUR. The Beatles demonstrated FEARLESS APPLICATION & BELIEF.
Fearless. That child-like naivety we experience when we “give something a good go”. When we choose not to be overwhelmed by potential consequences. That confidence that makes us feel bullet proof. Countless books have been written on how these aspects of fearlessness can dramatically improve our performance!
Application. Prior to their fame in 1964, the Beatles worked 10 hour musical shifts 7 nights a week in dark and desperate bars in Hamburg’s Kaiserkeller red light district. They were hard working and passionate in their application, and continued to produce approximately 2 albums per year between 1963 and 1970. Without this application, the Beatles would not have been.
Belief. As you will see from the John Lennon quote in our Monday Motivation section below, they had a lot of this! Belief is the cost of entry in any performance-based or competitive game, and we all play to some extent in these games EVERY DAY. So we can learn a lot from those who demonstrate strong self belief.
Do you have fearless application & belief in what you are doing? If not, then you are probably not producing FAB results. Think & act like the Beatles to dominate your game.
